Let me first wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year and for those who have just moved into our Parish or did not know, you actually live within the Parish of Cheddon Fitzpaine. We, the members of the Parish Council, are a very proactive committee and have already set up a website www.cheddonfitzpaine.pc.org.uk where you can find all the information you require about us and your area. January 2015 Cheddon Fitzpaine Parish NEWSLETTER In the past year we have been very busy installing new rubbish bins, dog bins and play equipment and having overgrown pathways and waterways cleared. One of our ongoing projects is to assist the adoption of the Waterleaze estate by TDBC and we are always ready to listen to your problems. All this has been achieved by careful budgeting and we have not had to increase the precept for next year. We will hold our Annual Parish meeting in the village hall at 7pm on 16th April 2015 where invited speakers from various organizations within the area will invite questions. Nibbles etc will be served and it is a very friendly and relaxed evening. Please do come and meet us. Your committee meets bi-monthly and you are welcome to attend these meetings. If you like the idea of getting involved in the Parish we are currently looking for additional Parish Councillors, a Footpaths Officer, a Tree Warden and volunteers to assist with the distribution of future editions of this Newsletter which will be issued approximately 6 times per year. Pastoral Care Group What is pastoral care? - Pastoral care is a model of emotional and spiritual support that can be found in all cultures and traditions. Pastoral care workers are not counsellors or therapists but are ordinary people offering a supportive and listening ear in complete confidence and with no strings attached. They can also offer practical support where appropriate and depending upon resources available. A very important part of the work is to reduce isolation in vulnerable groups. What is the pastoral visiting group and what do we do? - Cheddon Fitzpaine pastoral visiting group is made up of local people who share a common link in that we care about our neighbours. Currently we are a group of three people who came together about 10 years ago and who visit and provide support for anyone who may seek help including the sick, lonely, housebound, bereaved and those with young children. Although we operate under the umbrella of Cheddon Fitzpaine Church, our input is willingly given to those of any faith or none. It is also recognised that many others in our community also offer a listening ear or practical help although they may not part of an organised group. Their input is equally and vitally important. We arrange coffee mornings about twice per year which are well received by local residents and bring local people in contact with one another. If you feel that any of your neighbours or friends would benefit from contact with us then we would be pleased to hear from you. What else would we like to do? - We are very keen to expand the kind of support we offer to include a prescription collection service and also to provide transport for hospital and doctors appointments for those who are elderly or infirm. If anyone feels that they could offer some time for this purpose then we would again be pleased to hear from you. We are keen to extend the support we offer to those in the new developments of Cheddon Fitzpaine e.g. Maidenbrook, Waterleaze and Summerleaze. The residents of these groups have their own special needs as they are often families with young children who do not have family support around and often haven't lived in the area for long enough to establish a supportive social network. We would very much like to outreach into these groups and to establish links to increase the members of the Pastoral visiting group and to provide us with valuable knowledge of those in need.
